Opened in 1929, Shimoyoshida Station was renovated in 1951 to resemble Nagoya Station, which was considered the finest building in East Asia at the time of its construction. In 2009, the Shimoyoshida Station building was reborn with the concept of preserving its retro charm while transforming it into a 21st-century modern station, based on a design by industrial designer Eiji Mitooka. The station features a spacious atrium with boldly placed ceiling paintings, benches inspired by the ridgeline of Mount Fuji, and a concourse with a center table, creating a relaxed atmosphere where visitors can enjoy views of Mount Fuji and cherry blossom trees while at the station. The station also has a facility that is irresistible to railway enthusiasts: the Blue Train Terrace. It displays a sleeper express Blue Train (Suhanehu 14 type sleeper passenger car) that was popular under the nickname "Fuji," and is very popular with hardcore fans. The train car is specially opened to the public on weekends and holidays, allowing visitors to enjoy the interior as well. At the Shimoyoshida Club coffee shop attached to the station, you can enjoy freshly brewed coffee while taking in the train views to your heart's content. Arakurayama Sengen Park is famous as one of Japan's most spectacular viewpoints of Mount Fuji. Located at the foot to the middle of Mount Arakura, the park offers breathtaking views of the town of Fujiyoshida below and the symmetrical, beautiful form of Mount Fuji beyond, accessible by climbing 398 steps to the observation deck. In particular, during the cherry blossom season in spring, visitors can enjoy a spectacular view of Mount Fuji, a five-story pagoda, and cherry blossoms—all iconic symbols of Japan. However, its charm isn't limited to spring; throughout the four seasons, the harmony between Mount Fuji, which changes its appearance with each season, and the park's natural environment creates a beautiful landscape.

You can enjoy magnificent views of Mount Fuji from various locations throughout the city. In particular, along Nishiura Street, which runs west of Honmachi Street, you can enjoy a unique Fujiyoshida landscape where you can see Mount Fuji beyond retro signs and old-fashioned streetscapes.

Kinuyamachi was once a bustling district within the Shimoyoshida area, which thrived on the textile industry during the Showa era, with many wholesalers lining the streets. It is said that when a market was held on the 1st and 6th of each month, merchants from all over the country would gather to trade in front of the shops, and then enjoy the nightlife of Nishiura, the entertainment district of Fujiyoshida. Even today, the Kinuyamachi area retains the retro atmosphere of a once-flourishing merchant town from the Showa era.

In a restaurant that retains a strong Showa-era atmosphere, you can enjoy classic Western dishes such as doria, katsu curry, and hamburg steak, all while surrounded by the aroma of coffee. The daikon spaghetti, a favorite of the late Masahiko Shimura of Fujifabric, is also still available.

This cafe is a renovated former tofu shop. The owner, a former Japanese confectioner, carefully makes a variety of homemade sweets, including dorayaki and lemon cake. The coffee is hand-dripped one cup at a time, with the grind adjusted according to the condition of the beans. It's a place where you can relax and enjoy moist, sweet treats and aromatic coffee while strolling around town.
