A recommended day trip to Fujiyoshida on a rainy day (1 day)

Fujisan Station on the Fujikyu Railway Line is the gateway to Mount Fuji tourism and is bustling with many passengers every day. A red torii gate stands tall at the station entrance, and the majestic Mount Fuji can be seen from beside the station, making it easy to enjoy the charm of Fujiyoshida, the town at the foot of Mount Fuji, which is one of the reasons for its popularity. Within walking distance is the Kin Torii (Golden Torii), where you can enjoy a spectacular view of Mount Fuji peeking out from behind the large torii gate.
The adjacent department store, "Q-STA," houses "Gateway Fujiyama," where you can buy a wide variety of souvenirs, as well as a Mount Fuji observation deck.

During the Edo and Meiji periods, when the worship of Mount Fuji was prevalent, Fujiyoshida was lined with houses belonging to people called "Oshi" (religious guides).
Oshi are people who provide lodging in their homes to those who worship Mount Fuji, and take care of everything from preparing for climbs and providing meals to offering prayers on behalf of the believers. The former Togawa family residence, which is also a component of the Mount Fuji World Cultural Heritage site, was built in 1768, with a back room added at the end of the Edo period, and is a valuable building that retains its original appearance. Inside the building, there is a shrine dedicated to the god of Mount Fuji and spacious guest rooms, giving visitors a glimpse into the lifestyle of an Oshi. Valuable historical documents are also on display, allowing visitors to learn about the relationship between Mount Fuji worship and the Oshi.

Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine, one of the constituent assets of the Mount Fuji World Heritage Site, is a historic shrine representative of Fujiyoshida. As you proceed along the approach to the shrine, surrounded by a forest of cedar trees with thick trunks and lined with stone lanterns on both sides, you will feel a solemn atmosphere before being greeted by the "Fujisan Daitorii" (Great Torii Gate of Mount Fuji). This torii gate is one of the largest wooden torii gates in Japan, and its majestic appearance will surely take your breath away. Furthermore, purifying your hands with the cold snowmelt water from Mount Fuji flowing from the mouth of the dragon at the purification fountain before praying will further invigorate your spirits.

The worship hall is adorned with countless offerings that reflect the worship of Mount Fuji, while the main shrine is decorated with exquisite and intricate ornamentation, evoking a sense of history. To the left and right of the worship hall stand the sacred trees of "Fuji Taro Cedar" and "Married Couple Cypress," both estimated to be around 1000 years old, creating a grandeur and mystery of nature and history.

On a rainy day, the crisp air makes the temple grounds even more mystical and enjoyable.

Mount Fuji, Japan's highest mountain, is something many people think they know, but surprisingly, they don't. The Fujisan Museum is a place where you can learn about all sorts of things related to Mount Fuji in an enjoyable way. The museum is equipped with the latest facilities, such as projection mapping onto a large 1/2,000 scale model of Mount Fuji and touch panel displays, allowing you to see, feel, and learn about the history of Mount Fuji and the town of Fujiyoshida at its foot from various angles. The museum shop also sells unique souvenirs with Mount Fuji motifs that can only be bought here, as well as textile products from Fujiyoshida's traditional industry, such as ties and towels. In autumn, the leaves along the walking paths within the facility turn a vibrant red, creating a beautiful sight, which is another one of its attractions.

Starting August 1st, 2025, we will be serving "Miyaki-supervised chilled tanuki udon" at Michi-no-Eki Fujiyoshida. We have inherited the taste of the restaurant that sadly closed down, under the supervision of the owner. Please give it a try!

The udon noodles served at the convenient food court in Michi-no-Eki Fujiyoshida are authentic Yoshida udon, far exceeding what you'd expect from a food court. One of its charms is that when you order udon, it's served in a bowl featuring Fujiyoshida's mascot character, Udonburi-chan. You can enjoy classic Yoshida udon with thick, chewy noodles that have the characteristic firmness of Yoshida udon, served in a light broth flavored with seafood stock. The recommended dish is the meat udon, topped with sweet and savory braised horse meat and cabbage. The "Gomanzoku" spicy condiment sold at the roadside station's shop is popular for its delicious spiciness, and many customers end up buying it along with their udon noodles. In addition to udon, other popular gourmet items that can only be found here include the Radar Dome Curry, which recreates the nearby Radar Dome Museum.

The Mt. Fuji Radar Dome Museum opened in 2004 as a facility where visitors can learn about the history of the Mt. Fuji radar and weather observation in an enjoyable way. It displays the actual Mt. Fuji Radar Dome, which was installed on the summit of Mt. Fuji in 1964 and observed weather throughout Japan until 1999.
In 2022, the exhibit was completely revamped, adding disaster prevention content to the existing history of the Mt. Fuji radar and weather observations, making weather observations more accessible. The "Mt. Fuji Summit Cold Experience," where visitors can experience the sunrise and blizzards, has been enhanced with wind, video, and sound for a more immersive experience.

Michi-no-Eki Fujiyoshida, which offers a direct view of Mount Fuji, is a popular roadside station that consistently ranks high in the "Kanto Roadside Station Rankings." As a roadside station at the foot of Mount Fuji, it is bustling with many people throughout the year.

Not only can you buy local souvenirs that can only be found here, but you can also enjoy Fujiyoshida's local dish "Yoshida Udon" at the snack corner, and you can even draw as much spring water from Mt. Fuji as you want at the free water-drawing station on the premises!

Within the same area, you'll find the "Mt. Fuji Radar Dome Museum," "Fujiyama Beer Harvest Terrace," and "mont-bell," and there's also parking available for over 200 cars!
