"Mt. Fuji x Sightseeing x Food Tour" Kamiyoshida Full-Day Course

Fujisan Station is the 15th station from Otsuki Station on the Fujikyu Railway Line. Named Fujisan Station in July 2011, it's the station closest to Mount Fuji. Upon alighting from the train, you're greeted by a magnificent view of Mount Fuji from the platform. The red torii gate on the north exit bus rotary side is a popular photo spot.

This vast area, with its tranquil scenery, is also known as a viewpoint for Mount Fuji, which rises majestically beyond terraced fields and rice paddies.

As the name "rural park" suggests, local farmers cultivate various varieties of vegetables and rice. There are scattered fields where you can grow Milky Queen rice, corn, and watercress, which can only be grown in this land where delicious, cold water is always flowing.

When the rice paddies are filled with water, you can see Mount Fuji reflected in the water, creating an inverted image of the mountain. The scenery changes dramatically between early summer, when the rice stalks are not yet fully grown, and autumn, when the rice stalks are heavy with grain and gleam golden. You can enjoy a variety of views depending on the time of day and season.

Mount Fuji, Japan's highest mountain, is something that many people think they know but actually don't.

The Fujisan Museum is a place where you can learn about all sorts of things related to Mount Fuji in an enjoyable way. It features a large 1/2,000 scale model of Mount Fuji with projection mapping, as well as state-of-the-art facilities such as touch panel displays, allowing you to see, feel, and learn about the history of Mount Fuji and the town of Fujiyoshida at its foot from various angles.

Furthermore, the museum shop sells unique souvenirs featuring Mount Fuji that can only be purchased here, as well as textile products from Fujiyoshida's traditional industry, such as ties and towels. In autumn, the autumn leaves along the facility's walking paths turn a vibrant red, creating a beautiful sight, which is another of its attractions.

Kaneyama Falls, consisting of two streams with a drop of approximately 10 meters, is a waterfall on the Katsura River, which also contains groundwater from Mount Fuji, originating from Lake Yamanaka and Oshino Hakkai. It is a recommended spot rich in negative ions, located in a nature-rich environment that has long been loved by the citizens of Fujiyoshida as a summer relaxation spot.

In spring, the pink azaleas enhance the beauty of the waterfall; in summer, the lush green leaves; and in autumn, the Japanese maple trees. It's a well-known spot among photographers because, depending on the time of day, you can capture beautiful photos of sunlight filtering through the trees onto the waterfall.

1. Shinbori Udon

Shinbori Udon, which opened in 2017, is run by a chef who trained at the hugely popular udon restaurant Miura Udon. As expected of a restaurant in the "Miura style," the homemade noodles, made with carefully selected ingredients and hand-kneaded, are thick and chewy, and the toppings are classic Yoshida udon, mainly consisting of horse meat and cabbage.

The soup is a blend of soy sauce with a slightly stronger miso flavor, and we encourage you to enjoy the change in taste with our homemade sesame and chili oil-flavored paste.

2. Patisserie Tirol

Tirol is a popular Western-style confectionery shop in Fujiyoshida. Their cakes, made with highland butter sourced from the foot of Mt. Fuji and their original blend of fresh cream, are known for being both reasonably priced and delicious.

Bread made with natural yeast from domestically grown organic rice is also popular and makes a great small gift. You can enjoy cakes and drinks in the eat-in space.

3. Roadside Station Fujiyoshida - Snack Corner

The udon noodles served at the convenient food court in Michi-no-Eki Fujiyoshida are authentic Yoshida udon, far exceeding what you'd expect from a food court. One of its charms is that when you order udon, it's served in a bowl featuring Fujiyoshida's mascot character, Udonburi-chan. You can enjoy classic Yoshida udon with thick, chewy noodles that have the firm texture characteristic of Yoshida udon, served in a lightly flavored broth made with seafood stock.

The recommended dish is the meat udon, topped with sweet and savory braised horse meat and cabbage. The "Gomanzoku" spicy condiment, also sold at the roadside station's shop, is popular for its delicious spiciness, and many customers end up buying it along with their udon noodles. In addition to udon, other popular dishes that can only be enjoyed here include the Radar Dome Curry, which is a recreation of the nearby Radar Dome Museum.

4. Traditional Japanese House Cafe KONOHANA

The restored Osano family residence (Oshi residence) has been renovated into a calm and relaxing cafe with a modern Japanese atmosphere, while preserving its historical charm. You can enjoy cafe menus made with local ingredients.

Additionally, the cafe features a café stand where you can enjoy original gelato and freshly brewed drip coffee, as well as a select shop selling food-related goods that focus on the cuisine of the Mt. Fuji area. Enjoy a relaxing time at "Kominka Café KONOHANA," a café that captures the charm of the foot of Mt. Fuji.

Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine, one of the constituent assets of the Mount Fuji World Heritage Site, is a historic shrine representative of Fujiyoshida. As you proceed along the approach to the shrine, surrounded by a forest of cedar trees with thick trunks and lined with stone lanterns on both sides, you will begin to feel a solemn atmosphere, and then you will be greeted by the "Fujisan Daitorii" (Great Torii Gate of Mount Fuji). This torii gate is one of the largest wooden torii gates in Japan, and its majestic appearance will surely take your breath away.

Furthermore, purifying your hands with the cold, melted snow water from Mount Fuji that flows from the dragon's mouth at the purification fountain before entering the shrine will help you feel even more focused and reverent.

The worship hall is adorned with countless offerings that reflect the worship of Mount Fuji, while the main shrine is decorated with exquisite and intricate ornamentation, evoking a sense of history. To the left and right of the worship hall stand the sacred trees of "Fuji Taro Cedar" and "Married Couple Cypress," both estimated to be around 1000 years old, creating a grandeur and mystery of nature and history.

Every year on July 1st, the "Mountain Opening" festival is held, and at the end of August, the "Mountain Closing" festival takes place here, adding to the excitement of the short summer mountain season. In 2017, the main hall and other buildings were newly designated as Important Cultural Properties, bringing the total number of designated buildings to 11.

1 Kintaro

This is a long-established Japanese confectionery shop that has been in business for about 50 years. Not only do they have local customers, but because it is located on the way from Fujisan Station to Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine, you can also see tourists walking around with their famous "Ping Pong Man" sweets in hand, perfect for eating on the go.

The shop has a retro Showa-era feel, and is decorated with many antiques collected by the owner himself. Apparently, some foreigners even take pictures there. There are always 10 kinds of handmade Japanese sweets available. The red bean paste is made with adzuki beans from Tokachi, Hokkaido.

The shop, with its eye-catching brick exterior, is packed with carefully crafted breads, offering 50 different varieties. A particular recommendation is the almond croissant, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. If you see it on the shelf, be sure to buy some! Also perfect for eating on the go are the whole wheat bread made with Yamanashi-grown "Kaihonoka" wheat and the crispy melon bread. Hand-baked Baumkuchen and almond chocolates, presented in birch bark boxes, make great souvenirs or gifts.

With a focus on ingredients and preparation methods, the owner is dedicated to providing delicious and wholesome food, and the Japanese sweets, made early in the morning, have a shelf life of the same day. Their popular freshly baked dango (rice dumplings) (mitarashi and kusamochi) sometimes sell out by lunchtime!

It's perfect as a snack to eat while walking around when you're feeling a little hungry.

Located on the first floor of an apartment building down an alley off Oshimachi Street near the Marushige Store, you'll spot it by its striking light blue door. Cafetta means "little cafe" in Italian. They are popular for their homemade cakes (chiffon cake, organic carrot cake) and puddings, and they also serve pasta for lunch.
