Hataorimachi Festival 2026

In Fujiyoshida City, Yamanashi Prefecture, at the foot of Mount Fuji, the textile industry has flourished for over a thousand years, utilizing the spring water of Mount Fuji. It is also a rare production area that weaves a wide variety of textiles, and in recent years, many factory brands have emerged. The town retains a unique atmosphere, with buildings that evoke the past of weaving mills and back alleys lined with bars where people who worked in the mills would have gone for drinks. The Hataori-machi Festival, or Hatafes for short, is an autumn festival held in this charming old town.

The following is from the Hatafes Executive Committee

The Hataori Machi Festival is celebrating its 11th year this year. At last year's 10th anniversary Hata Festival, we received congratulatory messages from customers and vendors, which made us truly realize how long we've been able to continue. Over the past 10 years, we've been able to introduce many people to the town of Fujiyoshida and its weaving culture, and the townscape has gradually changed as more people have come to visit and vacant shops have been put to use. For this 11th Hata Festival, while maintaining the unique perspective on the town that has always been characteristic of Hata Festival, we are choosing to embrace change. We plan to invite new vendors and prepare new venues, aiming to create a Hata Festival that combines the best of the past with new changes.

We've also created a main visual that perfectly captures the essence of this transformation.

The person in charge was graphic designer Daijiro Ohara. According to Mr. Ohara

"Thread-winding Fuji, Weaving Fuji, Spinning Fuji, Bearded Fuji, Twin Fuji..."

The monkeys have transformed into various versions of Mount Fuji and gathered together in large numbers.

If you look closely, it seems that even the threads and letters have transformed into Mount Fuji," says the narrator, describing the many monkey-shaped Mount Fujis that make finding them a fun experience.

These monkeys might even make an appearance at the venue this year!
