In addition, there are many celebrities who participate and participants wearing unique helmets, so there are plenty of elements to enjoy that go beyond just riding a bicycle.

It's conveniently located, about 2 hours and 15 minutes from Shinjuku to the nearest Fujisan Station, with only one transfer!
When traveling with your bicycle by train, you'll want to choose a location with good train access. Fujiyoshida is a great option, as it only requires one transfer from JR Shinjuku Station to Fujisan Station! Using the Chuo Line express train, the journey takes approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes, making it relatively easy to access. From Fujisan Station to Fuji Hokuroku Park, the starting point of the Mt. Fuji Hill Climb, it's about 7km, so you'll need to cycle there.
Bicycle stands are available! First, let's fill our stomachs with some delicious food from Fujiyoshida!
One of the joys of traveling is, of course, the food. Fujiyoshida City, located at the foot of Mount Fuji, has many cycle-friendly restaurants equipped with bicycle stands. From hearty local dishes like Yoshida no Udon to Western-style restaurants with generous portions, it's the perfect place to fuel up before a hill climb.
Enjoy a worry-free dining experience at cycle-friendly restaurants.
Fujiyama Shokudo, with its old-fashioned house-like exterior reminiscent of a Shinto priest's residence, is very popular with foreigners. It serves thick, chewy noodles in a soy sauce-based broth. One of its attractions is that you can add as much of their special miso sauce as you like, allowing you to adjust the flavor to your liking. The most popular dish is the Fujisan Udon, a hearty bowl of udon topped with freshly fried, crispy tempura, pork, seaweed, and cabbage.
At first glance, you might not think it's an udon shop, as Tensaku has a pink-based exterior. Here, you can enjoy creative udon dishes that you can only find here, using ingredients such as shiso, yuzu, and even edible flowers like rose and lavender. The thick noodles have a firm, chewy texture and a flavor typical of Yoshida no Udon, but you're sure to be captivated by the unique taste infused with the colors and aromas of various edible flowers.
Tamakitei is a convenient spot for a late lunch, as it stays open until 16:30 PM (after 2 PM). The noodles are made with spring water and are characterized by their chewy, medium-thick texture. The soup is based on bonito flakes, dried sardines, and kelp broth, seasoned with miso and soy sauce for a mellow and addictive flavor. All tempura toppings are made fresh to order. Tamakitei's udon, topped with plenty of ingredients such as meat, tempura, kinpira, soft-boiled egg, and cabbage, is a popular and hearty dish.
Fujiya's udon features thick, chewy noodles served in a classic soy sauce and miso-based broth. They offer a wide variety of dishes, including standard items like meat udon and dipping udon, as well as unique options you can only find here, such as shrimp and chikuwa tempura udon and cheese black curry udon. Their complimentary crunchy and spicy lotus root kinpira is also highly praised. We recommend the Fujiya udon, which comes with all the toppings including chikuwa tempura, shrimp tempura, and meat. It's a hearty and satisfying dish that's sure to please.
Located about a 15-minute walk from Tsukigaeji Station, Bruschetta offers stylish Italian cuisine made with carefully selected ingredients. Their pizzas, baked slowly at high temperatures in a traditional pizza oven, are particularly popular. They also have a great selection of lunch sets, making it a reasonably priced and satisfying option.
Jikonan offers meticulously prepared, handmade soba noodles whose aroma fills your senses the moment you take a bite. In addition to classic dishes such as seiro soba, seasonal limited-time menus such as sudachi soba, beautifully topped with sliced sudachi citrus, and yamakinoko soba, overflowing with seasonal mushrooms, are also popular.
For any bicycle troubles, come to Kobayashi Bicycle Shop!
Before your hill climb, head to a reliable bike shop frequented by Olympic athletes.
Kobayashi Rinten, a long-established bicycle shop founded in 1950, also provides support for the Tour de Japan Lake Saiko Stage and the Mt. Fuji Hill Climb. Olympic athletes frequently visit the shop, so their skill is undeniable. If you're going to Kobayashi Rinten, we recommend getting off at Shimoyoshida Station.
After your downhill ride, relax and unwind at a hot spring!
After your hill climb, how about a relaxing soak in a hot spring? Soaking in a hot spring rich in beneficial ingredients will help you recharge your energy for the ride home.
Refresh yourself in a hot spring using spring water.
Yoshinoike Onsen, a historic hot spring resort dating back to 1856, is a charming wooden building with a thatched roof. From the windows of the indoor hot springs, you can enjoy views of the illuminated cherry blossoms and garden. The hot springs, using spring water from Mount Fuji, are very soothing and are renowned for their skin-benefiting properties. After relaxing in the hot springs, you can unwind in the large hall. Enjoy simple, rustic udon noodles and tea brewed in a traditional hearth, and forget the stresses of everyday life while soaking in a nostalgic atmosphere.
Located right next to Fuji-Q Highland, Fujiyama Onsen is a popular spot to soothe tired bodies after a day of fun at FUJI Q or after a strenuous climb up Mt. Fuji. Its popularity stems from the variety of baths available, including a daily changing vanadium bath using the unique vanadium water of Mt. Fuji, a high-concentration carbonated spring bath that promotes blood circulation and maintains health, and an open-air bath with a traditional Japanese feel. After refreshing yourself in the hot springs, you can relax in the free rest area, reading manga or getting a massage. Discounts are available for visitors to Fuji-Q Highland and the Fujiyama Museum, so combining visits is highly recommended.

Recommended itineraries
Fujisan Station, a hub for travelers, offers plenty of places to enjoy while waiting for buses and trains. This time, we'll introduce six recommended tourist spots around the station and cafes where you can easily stop by while you wait.
You can enjoy both the scenery and the food, whether it's gazing at the majestic Mount Fuji appearing amidst the townscape or relaxing at a cafe. Since you can explore the area on foot starting from the station, it's an easy course to enjoy even without a car.
This time, as a model course, I would like to recommend a half-day stroll through Fujiyoshida city. It's about 10 kilometers, which might be a bit tough for those with mobility issues, but there aren't any major inclines, so I think it's a course that can be enjoyed by a wide range of people, whether you're alone, with family, or with friends. Please enjoy the various faces of Fujiyoshida city as you take a leisurely stroll.
